Are Some Gonadotropin Treatments More Effective Than Others?

To date, no specific gonadotropin preparation has been proven to be more effective than another. Your doctor may prescribe one formulation or another without it affecting the success rates.
However, in cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism—whether congenital or acquired—LH activity is essential in addition to FSH, as ovulation cannot occur without it. In these cases, doctors may prescribe a dual-activity preparation (such as Menopur, Fertistartkit, or Pergoveris) or combine recombinant LH (Luveris) with FSH injections.
For all other situations, adding LH has not been shown to improve outcomes compared to FSH alone. However, some fertility specialists prefer to include LH for women over 35-37 years old or those with reduced ovarian reserve, as it may provide additional support for follicular development.
